Meeting place
Arjeplog is the meeting place for nature lovers and automotive technicians from all over the world and has earned its reputation as one of Sweden's most beautiful municipalities, with its 8727 lakes, wide forests and majestic mountains.
Tourist destination
The first inhabitants arrived 9000 years ago, lured by the natural bounty of moose, reindeer, fish and berries. Six Sami villages in the area run reindeer operations, which are still in tune with natural cycles. Much of Arjeplog's population is supported by the visitor industry. It comprises tourists, as well as automotive related guests from some of the world's largest vehicle and component manufacturers. Arjeplog is a frequent tourist destination, as anglers come for the fantastic fishing awaiting them in thousands of waterways, summer and winter alike.
Allemansrätt
Hikers and other tourists appreciate the silence, beauty, and adventure offered by the wilderness. Thanks to the unique Swedish "allemansrätt", the Right of Public Access, the wilderness is open to all.
Arjeplog - a safe community
The municipality of Arjeplog has, in one's official capacity as being member of WHO's (The World Health Organisation) network "Safe Communities", made a commitment to work with activities striving to prevent accidents. This commitment does not only concern the physical evironment, but also the underlying causes that leads to accident prone behaviour and suicidal tendencies. The efforts are directed to exposed groups, in all ages and environments and the work is performed, crossing all boundaries, together with other organisations within and outside the municipality.
